Posted by Benet Wilson 6:04 PM on Feb 08, 2010

Online private jet booking platform PrivateFly.com has created a new free iPhone app that lets customers enter their trip details and receive an estimate for chartering a private jet.

After entering departure and arrival information, user can also include travel dates and can search locations by airfield name or city. The price appears in seconds, with a range of aircraft to choose from, along with photos.

PrivateFly is about bringing new technology and software to a predominantly 'offline' marketplace, said spokeswoman Katrina Suppiah, adding that launching an iPhone app is a natural extension of that. “PrivateFly's Web site software lends itself perfectly to a iPhone app, using its own purpose-built software calculator to deliver instant charter estimates for busy people who are travelling,” she explained.  “The app delivers instant prices and location planning for anyone who wants to see how much a jet would cost, but also allows the serious charter customer to then register to PrivateFly to submit their request to the network.”

The company used its own Web site development team to create the app and do the software coding in house, said Suppiah.  “We employed one of the U.K.'s leading iPhone consultants to project develop the design and build of the app, as it is always vital to pull in expertise when using new technology,” she said.  “This strategy has worked for many of our IT products and it strikes a perfect balance of cost saving with maintaining the highest of industry standards.”

Development of the iPhone app supports PrivateFly's aim to make charter quicker, easier and more consistent, said Suppiah.  PrivateFly is the only booking network, for the end user, that allows end-to-end online booking.  “But PrivateFly also offers a full offline service 24/7,” she said.  “The app allows customers to get instant and accurate private jet pricing for any global itinerary, and they can then choose to submit their request to the PrivateFly network at the touch of a button.”

As a free marketing network for its operators, PrivateFly is a means of finding new customers, getting quotes quickly and easily for new flight requests and promoting their fleet to a wider audience, said Suppiah.
