  • Boeing 787-9 VIP scale model shows interior --even tiny TVs work
Posted by David Hughes 8:22 PM on Sep 27, 2007

At the BBJ booth at NBAA in Atlanta a cutaway model of a 787-9 VIP aircraft showing the interior as it would be configured for a private individual was on display.  (See photo at end of this post. More photos of this will be posted soon in  Chuck Colburn, marketing director for BBJs, told me that this model has was made by Pacific Miniatures and has 3 staterooms with showers. The master stateroom also has a bathtub too and an office next door).  The 10,000 naut. mi range aircraft is completed so it can carry 33 passengers.  The LCDs that mimic 52-in. plasma TVs all show real movies in the model -- from an iPod.  The aircraft model shows a conference/dining area, galley and crew rest bunks.  Colburn says Boeing has sold 13 787 VIPs, 11 to individuals and 2 to leasing companies. Customers include Middle Eastern royalty and private individuals in Europe and Asia.  All you need to buy a green 787-9 VIP airplane is $150 to $160 million and $40 to $70 million to pay for a completion. The model interior was made by Greenpoint Technology, a company that will do full scale 787 VIP completions.
