PiperJet Altaire Mockup Debut
At the BBJ booth at NBAA in Atlanta a cutaway model of a 787-9 VIP aircraft showing the interior as it would be configured for a private individual was on display. (See photo at end of this post. More photos of this will be posted soon in www.aviationweek.com/NBAA.) Chuck Colburn, marketing director for BBJs, told me that this model has was made by Pacific Miniatures and has 3 staterooms with showers. The master stateroom also has a bathtub too and an office next door). The 10,000 naut. mi range aircraft is completed so it can carry 33 passengers. The LCDs that mimic 52-in. plasma TVs all show real movies in the model -- from an iPod. The aircraft model shows a conference/dining area, galley and crew rest bunks. Colburn says Boeing has sold 13 787 VIPs, 11 to individuals and 2 to leasing companies. Customers include Middle Eastern royalty and private individuals in Europe and Asia. All you need to buy a green 787-9 VIP airplane is $150 to $160 million and $40 to $70 million to pay for a completion. The model interior was made by Greenpoint Technology, a company that will do full scale 787 VIP completions. `
