The Belgian government today approved the extension of its military support of France's Operation Serval in Mali until the end of this month. The two Belgian air force C-130s will therefore stay in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. These aircraft have conducted the second greatest number of supply missions in support of Operation Serval after French aircraft, according to the Belgian ministry of defense. During the 133 flights they have conducted so far, the two Belgian C-130s have clocked up 256 flying hours and airlifted 777 passengers and nearly 500 tons of materiel. The two Belgian medicalized A109 helicopters will also stay in Gao, Mali. After their support of Operation Serval, the A109s will be assigned to the EU Training Mission in Mali, contributing to the protection of the mission's training camp in Koulikoro, 60 kilometers from the capital, Bamako.
