The last F-16s sold to Chile by the Netherlands under a 2009 agreement are now being transferred. Five F-16s took off from Volkel air base today bound for the South American country.

Twelve F-16s were transferred at the beginning of November 2010 and April 2011. The last aircraft will follow tomorrow as it was not ready to fly today. Chile bought a first batch of 18 F-16s in 2006.

The latest transfer reduces the number of F-16s in the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) from 105 to 87, including 14 training aircraft. The 18 RNLAF F-16s deactivated under the latest defense cuts will also be sold.
