Airbus Military says it has wrapped up flutter testing of the Airbus A330-based tanker’s refueling boom.
The next major milestone for the development program is to transfer fuel from the A330 to another aircraft. Dry contacts have already been completed.
The flutter flight trials took place from the Airbus Military facility in Seville, Spain. The company says it assessed the performance with both the boom in a stored and deployed configuration. Speeds reached Mach 0.92.
Airbus Military officials are in discussions with Australian officials over when to deliver the first of the Royal Australian Air Force KC-30 tankers. Moreover, they are waiting for final word from Washington on the way forward in the U.S. Air Force KC-X tanker saga.
