  • STOVL F-35s Back in the Air

After record snowfall in the Washington area that wasn't on any of Bill's forensic trail of JSF program schedules, the first F-35B STOVL JSF resumed testing at Pax River on Feb.7, aircraft BF-1 completing two flights. One included the slowest landing yet for the F-35B - 130kt with the lift-fan STOVL propulsion system engaged.

One more step in the build-down to the first vertical landing.

The same day, the third F-35B test jet, aircraft BF-3, ferried to Pax from Lockheed Martin's Fort Worth plant - a 3h 10min flight. Joining BF-1 and BF-2 at Pax, BF-3 will be assigned to evaluating vehicle systems, expanding the flight envelope and weapons testing. Two more development F-35Bs will follow for mission-system testing.
