There are currently more than 1,800 iRobot-manufactured PackBot robots in operation in Iraq and Afghanistan, and it looks like the company is gearing up to send even more ‘bots to theater. The company recently inked a $13.3 million deal (the sixth order under the xBot contract, bringing the total contract value to about $63 million) to deliver 165 additional PackBot 510 with FasTac Kit robots to the Army. The ‘bots are put to use investigating suspicious objects, and identifying possible IEDs. In making the announcement, the company also said that it now has the ability to deliver 100 PackBot robots per month to the Army, and that the newest contract for 165 more units will be fulfilled before April 30, 2009. The company also announced that that it has received a $5.8 million order under the contract to supply spare parts for the PackBot system.
