The first image of the F-35 looking particularly menacing has been released by Lockheed Martin as the first STOVL F-35, BF-1, is poised to return to flight tests. BF-3, the third F-35B, is pictured being prepared for ground vibration testing with all external pylons loaded. Attached to the centerline pylon is a pod housing the F-35B's external, four-barrel GAU-22 25mm cannon. Unlike the F-35B/C variants, the F-35A carries the cannon internally. (Lockheed Martin)
