(credit: Airbus Military)Airbus Military reports the first tanker for the Royal Saudi Air Force logged its first flight on March 15. The RSAF is the third customer for the Airbus A330-200-based multirole tanker to see its aircraft fly. The mission was flown from Airbus Military’s facility at Getafe, outside Madrid. A second A330 is already in modification for the RSAF, with the third to be inducted into the conversion line this year. The conversion task was done by Iberia’s maintenance and engineering unit. It is the first time Airbus Military has subcontracted the conversion to the Iberia business, the airline group says. It adds that the effort took 140,000 man-hours, during which time 5,500 systems were modified and 58.5 km of cabling installed.
