General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and Rheinmetall Defense today announced that they have formed a tank ammunition joint venture. General Dynamics and Rheinmetall have already been working together on 120mm ammunition projects for over a decade, including the development and production of KEW-A1 and KEW-A2 advanced tungsten kinetic energy ammunition for operators of the M1 main battle tank around the world. DMI will work on further improving the KEW family and develop and produce advanced multi-purpose ammunition based on Rheinmetall’s DM 11 round used by the U.S. Marines in Afghanistan.
