General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems and Rheinmetall Defense today announced that they have formed a tank ammunition joint venture. The new company, Defense Munitions International (DMI), will develop and market new and existing 120 mm kinetic energy and multi-purpose cartridges for the U.S. and international tank ammunition markets.
General Dynamics and Rheinmetall have already been working together on 120mm ammunition projects for over a decade, including the development and production of KEW-A1 and KEW-A2 advanced tungsten kinetic energy ammunition for operators of the M1 main battle tank around the world. DMI will work on further improving the KEW family and develop and produce advanced multi-purpose ammunition based on Rheinmetall’s DM 11 round used by the U.S. Marines in Afghanistan.
...and its effects
The joint venture will not work on certain cartridge types or 120mm practice ammunition.
