The Belgian Ministry of Defense recorded 13 incidents of lasers being pointed at military aircraft in the last year. The incidents took place against fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, mainly while they were flying low, landing or taking off.

Responding to a recent parliamentary question, Belgian Defense Minister Pieter de Crem said the impact of these incidents can range from limiting a pilot's visibility through reflections on a canopy to temporary or longer-term eye damage.

The Dutch Ministry of Defense reported 571 incidents last year, but this figure includes lasers being pointed at civilian aircraft.

Pointing lasers at an aircraft is a criminal offense in both Belgium and the Netherlands.
