  • USAF Secretary Outlines Priorities in Budgets
Posted by Michael Bruno 4:03 PM on Sep 20, 2011

ISR may be a growth area for industry and the Pentagon alike, but the head of the U.S. Air Force cautions that it too will fall under budget scrutiny. In an exclusive, pre-AFA interview with AvWeek’s Amy Butler, USAF Secretary Michael Donley says a re-examination of the ISR portfolio, led by the Air Force’s intelligence office, is already underway.

Donley says it will be due in the fall in time to advise senior leaders on major budget decisions.

The fiscal 2013 budget will go to Congress in February.

“As the overall budget comes down, we will have to get a little bit more discriminating about how we set priorities for ISR development,” he tells Aviation Week.

Aviation Week Intelligence Network subscribers can get much more of Amy’s sit-down with Donley, as well as his latest comments at the AFA conference near Washington. Donley says he continues to call for the modernization of the trainer fleet and additional purchases of helicopters and presidential support aircraft, like the new Air Force One that could go to Boeing since EADS has said it is not interested in the competition.
