The first two Alenia Aermacchi MB-339CM trainers for the Malaysian air force are now in customer hands.
The aircraft maker says it has handed over the first of eight trainers the Malaysian air force ordered in late 2006. The remaining six aircraft are to be handed over this year.
The aircraft are to be used as lead-in fighter trainers. Malaysia is a long-standing customer for the MB-339, having previously operated the A-model, which will now be phased out. The CM-configuration comes with head-up display, three multi-function displays for both the front and rear cockpit and an air-refueling probe. It is based on the CD-standard in service in Italy.
The delivery took place at Kuantan air base. They logged 12,000-km during the delivery flight from Alenia Aermacchi’s facility.
