Eurocopter this week showed off the CH-53GA -- A for Advanced -- the latest version of the heavy lift helo the company has built under license for the German army. The CH-53GA is an extensive avionics upgrade, fitting the helo with a version of the Rockwell Collins CAAS suite. It also upgrades the electronic warfare suite slightly from the CH-53GS standard now in service. Here's a video of the ceremonial first flight that took place this week (the actual first flight occurred in late January):The total flight test program should run about 300 hours. First customer deliveries are planned for next year, with service entry a year after. Eurocopter is to modify 40 CH-53s into the latest configuration.
