Finland's Patria has begun flight testing the first of 15 Finnish air force BAe Hawk Mk51 trainers to be upgraded with CMC Electronics' Cockpit 4000 integrated avionics. The locally modified aircraft is being tested at Halli airfield.

The glass-cockpit upgrade includes an open-architecture mission computer, wide-angle headup display and upfront control panel in the front, HUD repeater in the rear and single multifunction displays in both cockpits. Finland was the first export customer for the Hawk, in 1980, and this is the first glass-cockpit update for the early 50- and 60-series Hawks. CMC has high hopes of upgrading many of those still in service around the world.
