The first Korean Utility Helicopter has been publicly presented.
The 8-metric-ton rotorcraft, developed by Korean Aerospace Industries and Eurocopter, is slated to have its first flight early next year. The program was formally launched in June 2006.
The plan is to build 245 of the helos for the South Korean army, with the helicopter to enter service in 2012.
KAI is the prime contractor, but Eurocopter has a key role, working on the gear boxes, rotor mast and autopilot and acting as a technical support organization to KAI.
