Germany is prepared to export 200 Leopard 2A7+ tanks to Saudi Arabia, the German news weekly Spiegel reports.According to the magazine, Saudi Arabia first negotiated with General Dynamics Land Systems' Spanish subsidiary, Santa Barbara, which produces the Leopard 2 under license, before Germany agreed to deliver most of the tanks, which the Saudis reportedly want to buy new, not used. Spiegel also claims the sale is no longer considered a threat by Israel.The reported sale has been criticized by German parliamentarians across party lines. One of the arguments of critics against a possible sale is the recent Saudi intervention to put down protests in neighboring Bahrain.
