Singapore Minister for Defense Teo Chee Hean opened the Murai Urban Training Facility and observed about 500 soldiers securing an objective in an urban operations exercise on September 5, 2008. The exercise involved seven-man tactical teams which were equipped with the Advanced Combat Man System (ACMS) (see photo above). When the leader has ACMS his team becomes part of a larger network up to battalion. The teams also become ground sensors to track the position of friendly and enemy forces and images are fed back to commanders.
Located within the existing Lim Chu Kang training area, the new urban training facility allows the armed forces to conduct urban operations training in a realistic environment.
It is built to resemble a typical town with bus stops, traffic lights and overhead bridges.
The facility will be equipped with tools that help simulate varying operational environments.
Video monitoring and recording systems will be used in training sessions.
