London this week will see an exercise of likely security measures for the Olympic Games starting in July. As part of that layered umbrella of security, which will see Eurofighter Typhoons based at RAF Northolt in the west of the city, the Defense Ministry has now also disclosed where it might position ground-based air defenses. The deployment of the systems in heavily residential areas has raised some eyebrows, although the locations are largely in London's East End (an area not spoiled by love and attention to urban planning). Here is the list of possible missile sites: SITE LOCATION GBAD SYSTEM Lexington Building Fairfield Road, Bow, Tower Hamlets, E3 2UF Starstreak High Velocity Missile (HVM) Fred Wigg Tower Montague Road Estate, Waltham Forest, E11 3ER HVM Blackheath Common Blackheath (Lewisham/Greenwich) Rapier William Girling Reservoir Lea Valley Reservoir Chain, Enfield Rapier Oxleas Wood Shooters Hill, Greenwich/Woolwich Rapier Barn Hill Netherhouse Farm, Barn Hill, Epping Forest Rapier Among the other military equipment in the region will be Lynx helos from the Royal Navy embarked on HMS Ocean, with the Typhoons at Northolt joined there by RAF Pumas and other assets.
