It is not only the U.S. that is ending its presence in Iraq. Personnel of the little-known NATO Training Mission-Iraq (NTM-I) are also withdrawing by the end of the year, when their mandate expires, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen announced today.NATO group photo of NTM-I in 2009 Since it began in 2004, the NTM-I has trained more than 5,000 Iraqi military personnel and over 10,000 police personnel in Iraq, provided courses for nearly 2,000 more in NATO countries and alliance facilities such as the Joint Warfare Center in Stavanger, Norway, and donated more than €115 million ($152 million) worth of military equipment and €17.7 million to a related trust fund.
