Well, almost. The sight of Blackhawk helicopters circling unusually low over the ramp at Edwards AFB, Calif, caught my attention as I visited the base today. Turning a corner close to the base’s famous U.S. Air Force Test Pilot’s School (TPS) I was confronted by a vast encampment of trucks and trailers – a sure sign to any Angelino that Hollywood was in town. Under the curious cover name of ‘Operation Autumn Frost’ (or similar), the cast of thousands was there at the spiritual home of flight testing to shoot scenes for the next superhero film – Superman: Man of Steel. Superman or the latest USAF TPS grad? Cavill plays the new Man of Steel (Warner Bros)Staring 29-year old British actor Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Russell Crowe as Jor-El and Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, the film is due for release in 2013. No word yet on whether TPS instructors were on hand to offer flying lessons to Cavill.
