The Royal Netherlands Navy support ship Hr. Ms. Amsterdam yesterday escorted a ship delivering supplies to Somalia for the UN's World Food Programme (WFP), the Dutch Ministry of Defense announced today. The Amsterdam escorted the freighter Port Said carrying 6,997 tons of aid, including flour and palm oil, to the port of Boosaaso in Somalia.

It was the first time the Amsterdam escorted a WFP ship as part of the EU Operation Atalanta anti-piracy mission. The Comoros-registered Port Said was met by the Amsterdam in the port of Berbera and escorted safely to Boosaaso.
