The Israeli navy has joined the IAF in attacking Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip.

The IDF says the navy joined the operation on Sunday night, local time, firing at Hamas outposts and vessels associated with the organization. The IDF says the navy reports direct hits, but so far the military hasn’t released imagery directly tied to the naval attack.

Israel has underpinned its attack – read more here on Ares – with a flurry of pictures and videos aimed to make its case that it is focusing on infrastructure involved in rocket attacks from Gaza on Israel.

But the IDF acknowledges also having gone after political targets, such as the office of the Hamas prime minister Ismail Haniyeh.

Air strikes actually began earlier than Friday, although that's when the sustained attack began. However, the IAF already attacked suspected rocket sites on December 17.
