Four French Mirage F1CRs started patrolling Baltic airspace yesterday under NATO's air policing mission operating out of Siauliai air base in Lithuania. The French fighters landed in Siauliai on 26 April and will conduct their mission for the next four months.

They were preceded in the beginning of April by 50 French support personnel: mechanics, infrastructure, communication and information system, and fuel specialists, firefighters, medics, and military police. The French contingent now totals 90 personnel.

The French relieved a detachment of Danish F-16s. It is the fourth time France conducts NATO's Baltic air policing mission.
