The Royal Saudi Air Force has now begun operational use of its Eurofighter Typhoons.

Quick reaction alert duties with Typhoon began on July 2, says Guy Griffiths, BAE Systems group managing director international.
The RSAF has now taken delivery of 22 of the first batch of 24 Typhoons, with the last two to be delivered in the second half.

Still under discussion is the further evolution of the 72-fighter program. Those center around final assembly taking place in the U.K., rather than shifting it to Saudi Arabia as once planned. Pricing of those aircraft also is still under review.

BAE Systems also reports that "
potential modifications to the last 24 aircraft to allow future incorporation of Tranche 3 capability" is being negotiated with Saudi Arabia.

Talks also have begun for a follow-on support deal to the agreement struck in 2009. The next phase of the support contract starts next year.

Meanwhile, BAE Systems notes that at mid-year, it has delivered 50 of 81Tornados being worked on under the sustainment program.
