The German air force now has taken delivery of the first Panavia Tornado with an upgraded electronic warfare suite that should boost pilots' ability to survive in a higher threat environment. The so called Avionics Software System Tornado Ada 2 (ASSTA 2) program is slated to be rolled out throughout the German Tornado inventory. In addition to enhanced self-protection capability, the aircraft also are receiving a cockpit display upgrade, such as color displays and enhanced navigation system.
