The document that the Government Accountability Office issued to back up Michael Sullivan's testimony on Tuesday included this chart:It's from April 2010. The most recent changes, cutting more LRIP aircraft to cover development overruns, may not change the level of the peak by very much but can be expected to extend it to the right - the 2024-27 drop-off here represents the completion of F-35B and F-35C deliveries. The new (black-world) bomber planned for the USAF differs from the earlier "2018" concept in a number of ways, but one reason that the timescale has slipped, with initial operational capability now in the mid-2020s, is that aircraft-procurement money until then is tapped out.
