The Swiss air force is going to deploy six F/A-18s to Norway to gain additional training time flying at night.

Opportunities for night operations are extremely limited in Switzerland owing to the small size of the country and lack of unpopulated areas where one could train without disrupting the electrorate.

The F/A-18s will go to Oerland in the north of Norway from November 12 to December 5, the Swiss government says.

The exercise, called Nightway, also is supposed to provide valuable experience by operating in extreme conditions other than night, including cold and difficult terrain.
