  • Saudi Air Force C-130 Fleet Still Going Strong
Posted by Nigel Howarth 7:09 AM on Mar 27, 2013

The Royal Saudi Air Force operates the largest fleet outside of the USA of legacy C-130s (pre-C-130J models) and they continue to operate very regular flights to Europe and the US, with the UK being a particularly common destination. According to Aviation Week Intelligence Network's Fleet database, the RSAF operates 40 C-130H's including 7 tankers. Modernization is happening, albeit slowly. In late 2010, 6 older E models were sold to Turkey, and then at the end of 2012 there was a Notification to Congress of the possible sale of 25 C-130J's, including 5 tankers. To date this has not been confirmed as a firm order, but it is expected to happen in the next couple of years.
