You may be wondering why Ares has been so quiet on things concerning France recently. The reason is simple: for several weeks prior to a presidential election campaign, senior French officials, be they military or industrial, do not make any public statements that could possibly be given any kind of political mileage and so give no interviews to the national press. So there is no news! And that will continue to be the case until May 7 when the results of the second and final round between incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy and Socialist challenger François Hollande are known following voting on May 6. However, more leeway is given to foreign, specialized media, and so in the May issue of DTI, there is a long interview with the French Naval Chief of Staff and in the June issue there will be one with the Army Chief of Staff.
