Back when poseurs carried cell phones the size of bricks and companies handed out VHS tapes, reporters used to call Lockheed-California and ask them to confirm that they were building a stealth fighter, or whether they had anything to do with a cluster of new hangars that had appeared in Tonopah, Nevada. The standard answer: "I don't have anything for you on that". It's now become part of the media-relations lexicon, and basically means "We can't tell you." It's even in some guides to dealing with media.I hadn't personally received that response for years, until yesterday, after I asked the Skunk Works to comment on the Desert Prowler. To me, that tends to confirm that it's a Skunk Works project - the other suspects would be the special programs shop at Northrop Grumman.Meanwhile, the Secret Projects forum is the place to go for technical speculation, as usual.
