Insurgents have fired on a German air force Transall C-160 operating in Afghanistan.

The incident occurred as the airlifter was taking off at 12:19 p.m. local time from an air field in the Kunduz province, where German forces are heavily deployed. The airlifter was subject to small arms fire and anti-tank weapons, the Luftwaffe says.

None of the troops onboard were injured, and the aircraft escaped damage. Nevertheless, the incident highlights how it is not just helicopters that are at risk in the difficult operating conditions in the country.
