Japan has completed the latest test of its SM-3 ballistic missile intercept system. The Japanese ship, JS Kirishima, was involved in the flight trials off the U.S. Pacific Missile Range at Kauai, Hawaii. The destroyer engaged a 1,000 km.-range separating ballistic missile target, the U.S. Missile Defense Agency says. The interceptor was completed using an SM-3 Block 1A missile, which intercepted the target 3 minutes after its launch at 17:06 Hawaii time. Intercept occurred at an altitude of around 100 miles.The U.S. Navy's USS Lake Erie and USS Russell also participated in the test.MDA released this video of the event:
