Raytheon and the U.K. defense ministry have announced that the Paveway 4 has completed capability and operational evaluation trials for the dual-mode, GPS/laser-guided 500 lb. bomb.

The tests were conducted at the Naval Air Warfare Center, China Lake, Calif. They involved 14 shots dropped from Harrier GR9s and flow by 41(R) Squadron, which is the Royal Air Force’s Fast Jet & Weapons Operational Evaluation unit.

The development program encountered some early problems, including the fuzing. But now the defense ministry says all fuzing modes were demonstrated.

The next step is to integrate the weapon onto the Tornado and Typhoon. Eventually, the F-35 (or Joint Combat Aircraft in U.K. parlance) will also receive the bomb.
