EADS North America has delivered the first of four Airbus Military CN235-300 maritime patrol aircraft to the Mexican Navy. The aircraft are being supplied under a $158 million US foreign military sales deal and are in the same configuration as the US Coast Guard's HC-144A Ocean Sentrys.Photo: EADS North AmericaMe, I have trouble calling it the "Airbus Military" CN235. I still remember it as the CASA-Nurtanio CN-235 jointly developed by Spain's CASA and Indonesia's IPTN and first flown back in 1983. It may not have done that well as a regional airliner, but it is doing fine as a military transport and special-mission aircraft. More than 200 are in service worldwide, says EADS, of which the US Coast Guard has 12 with plans to acquire a total of 36.
