  • Germans Damage Heron
Posted by Robert Wall 3:03 PM on Mar 18, 2010

German air force operations with the Heron 1 are off to an inauspicious start.

After completing its first flight at Mazar-e-Sharif, the unmanned aircraft was damaged when it collided with a parked aircraft. The aircraft was being rolled back to its parking spot when the incident occurred for still undetermined reasons.

One person was slightly injured in the incident, the German military says, with both aircraft sustaining damage.

The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. local time.

The German military's aviation safety office is looking into the incident.
