The Royal Netherlands Navy's supply ship Hr. Ms. Zuiderkruis today left the port of Den Helder for its last mission, supplying warships participating in the EU's Operation Atalanta anti-piracy mission off the Somali coast. The 36-year-old ship is the oldest in the Dutch navy and will be retired from service after the mission.

The ship's captain, Lt.Capt. Herman de Groot, said the Zuiderkruis is in "excellent condition," despite its age: "the additional advantage of such an old ship is that we can do much of the maintenance ourselves."
The Zuiderkruis will be used to refuel and supply allied ships participating in Operation Atalanta.
