Posted by David Hughes 5:04 PM on Jul 28, 2008

The Republic of Singapore Navy is participating in the multilateral Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) naval exercise for the first time. The U.S. Navy led exercise started with an onshore planning phase followed by 22 days at sea. The sea phase occurred off the Coast of Hawaii during July. As a part of this exercise, the guided missile frigate RSS Steadfast fired a Harpoon anti-ship missile on July 14, 2008 (see Republic of Singapore Ministry of Defense photo below).

The RSS Steadfast also refueled at sea with a contingent of U.S. Navy vessels (see photo below with Steadfast on the right). In all, 34 ships, 6 submarines, 150 aircraft and 20,000 personnel from the navies of Australia, Canada, Chile, Japan, Republic of Korea, the Netherlands, Peru, the United Kingdom and the United States participated in RIMPAC 08.
