The KC-30A tanker has now completed its first flight as an RAAF aircraft, the Australian defense department announced.

Along with that milestone, the government has set late 2012 as the planned date for the KC-30A to reach its initial operational capability. At that time all five Airbus A330-200s being acquired as tankers should have been delivered.

After many delays, the first two were handed over in June. Two more are due this year -- they are being converted by Qantas Defense Services.
