  • Canadians Sink U.S. Ship (On Purpose)
Posted by Graham Warwick 2:36 PM on Jul 21, 2012

Time to watch the movie Canadian Bacon again. The Royal Canadian Navy hunter-killer submarine HMCS Victoria torpedoed and sank the U.S. Navy's USNS Concord off Hawaii on July 17.

Thankfully the Concord was decommissioned and the sinking by a Mk 48 torpedo was part of the annual Rim of the Pacific (Rimpac) 2012 multinational exercise. So we won't have to invade Canada just yet.

Here's a video of the Victoria and the sinking, in the Pacific Missile Range Facility Barking Sands, taken from a Royal Canadian Air Force CP-140 Aurora patrol aircraft. Farewell Concord.
