A Belgian air force Embraer was called in to bring Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy and some of his ministers to a Spanish-Italian summit in Rome after the Spanish air force Airbus A310 meant to do so had to fly to Honduras to pick up Prince Felipe after the A310 he was using had problems. The delegation made it to the summit on the Embraer and two Spanish Falcons.Belgian Defense photo by Christian Decloedt
On 3 January, it was Air France which had to rescue Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, who along with a delegation he led to Turkey and Lebanon on a two-day humanitarian mission devoted to Syria was stranded because of problems with the Embraer meant to fly them back home. The delegation returned to Belgium on a night flight with Air France.
At the end of December, a problem with the same Embraer delayed a visit by Prime Miniser Elio Di Rupo by an hour and a half.
The Belgian air force operates four Embraers, which are used mainly for VIP transport (and accompanying journalists like me).
