Libyan Wings, a new airline in Libya, has signed a memorandum of understanding for three Airbus A350-900s and four A320neos (new engine option). The airline plans to launch operations in early 2014 using two dry-leased Airbus A320s, but has plans to grow the operation in the following years.
Libyan Wings expects to grow its fleet to 10 aircraft within four years. It is backed by private businessmen in the country. The airline plans to position itself as a full service carrier offering business and economy class cabins on both its longhaul and shorthaul flights. Although the country is still blacklisted by the European Union, ¨we would like to be first airline to fly to Europe,¨ the carrier states.
Libyan has not yet selected an engine type for the A320neo fleet.
