The advanced wing tips are part of a series of aerodynamic improvements that are expected to improve the efficiency of the current generation 175s by at least 5%. Republic Chairman, President and CEO Bryan Bedford, a 175 customer, says he is satisfied with the enhancements but lamented that GE has not done enough to improve the aircraft’s engine. “We would certainly like to encourage our friends at General Electric to see what they can do to drive more fuel economy,” he told reporters following the delivery ceremony at Embraer. “I think as an industry we sort of take it for granted that design and engineering enhancements lead to a 1% improvement every year. We haven’t seen that.”
