Doncasters Signs LOI to Acquire Automatic

UK-based Doncasters Group has signed a letter of intent to purchase Automatic SMP (ASMP), a manufacturer of internally threaded fasteners and precision components. If acquired, ASMP will become an integral part of Doncasters’ growing aerospace fastener business. Doncasters provides aerospace OEMs with precision manufactured turbine airfoils, rings and casings, structural castings, compressor airfoils, combustion components, and fabrications and exhausts for gas turbine engines, as well as aerostructures and components for airframe applications. With the addition of ASMP, the group will expand the breadth of their offering to include internally free-spinning and locking nuts required for critical aerospace applications.

GE Aviation to Build Composites Facility in UK

GE Aviation has begun development of a composites production facility for the Airbus A350 XWB jetliner family at its Hamble, UK, site. The 9,000-sq-meter (29,500-sq-ft) facility will enable GE Aviation Hamble to ramp up the output of fixed-wing trailing edge components for A350-800, A350-900 and A350-1000 aircraft, reaching the capacity to deliver up to 13 shipsets per month. The A350 XWB package is the largest production contract awarded in GE Aviation Hamble’s 75-year history, comprising more than 3,000 components that include structural composite panels and complex machined assemblies.

GKN Earns Contract for Silvercrest Engine Cases

GKN Aerospace has signed a long-term agreement with Snecma to manufacture low-pressure turbine (LPT) cases for its new Silvercrest large/long-range business jet engine. First deliveries of cases to Snecma in Villaroche, France, will take place this month, ramping up as the engine is introduced into service through 2016. GKN Aerospace is a risk- and revenue-sharing partner with Snecma in the CFM56 program and has been the sole supplier of LPT cases for the CFM56 since 1986. The GKN Aerospace engine systems business has delivered more than 10,000 low-pressure turbine cases for commercial and military engines worldwide.
