Bydén says officers are drawing up recommendations now and he hopes the first phase of the procurement process can begin early in 2014.

The Swedish armed forces also are building up hours on their long-delayed fleet of NHIndustries NH90s. Four aircraft are currently in operation in the high-ceiling tactical troop transport configuration. The NH90s are due to fly 1,000 hr. in 2013; with the delivery of new aircraft later this year, they will fly some 2,000 hr. in 2014.
