JetBlue Airways by the end of October expects to have equipped with automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) avionics the 35 Airbus A320 aircraft targeted for retrofit in an FAA-funded program. In return for the funding, which was announced in early 2011, JetBlue provided the agency with data on fuel and time savings, which the FAA hopes to be able to use to persuade other airlines to equip their aircraft. The airline also is testing 20 Apple iPads for use as pilot operating manuals and could issue the computer tablets to the entire pilot group sometime between January and March.
